Three charged following Medicine Hat shooting that injured man

Three people have been charged following a police investigation into a targeted shooting that seriously injured a Medicine Hat man earlier this month.

The Medicine Hat Police Service said officers began investigating on July 12 after the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital reported that a man had arrived with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.

Investigators determined the victim had been shot at a residence in the 600 block of Sixth Street S.W. The man sustained serious injuries and was treated in hospital.

Police said members of the Major Crimes Unit executed search warrants, interviewed witnesses, reviewed surveillance footage and gathered forensic evidence during the investigation.

Investigators concluded the shooting was a targeted attack involving multiple suspects.

As a result, 45-year-old Benjamin Adam of Medicine Hat has been charged with break and enter, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and discharging a firearm with intent.

Police said Adam is currently in provincial custody after being sentenced on an unrelated matter and will appear in court on the new charges under a judge’s order.

Forty-five-year-old Bodana Dye of Medicine Hat has been charged with aggravated assault. She was released following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 5.

Twenty-six-year-old Jade Holt of Medicine Hat has also been charged with aggravated assault. She was released following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear in court July 29.

Police said no further information will be released because the matter is now before the courts.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the shooting who has not yet spoken with police to contact the Medicine Hat Police Service at 403-529-8481.
