ORIGINAL STORY:

Fires in Montana state, including one discovered Tuesday morning near Whitefish, could impact air quality in the Lethbridge region by Thursday.

A satellite model by Fire Smoke Canada is indicating the Bridge City could be under hazy skies, with the worst air quality predicted during the noon hour.

Environment & Climate Change Canada has listed the Air Quality Health Index, or AQHI, at a moderate risk of 4, on a 10+ scale, for today and tonight, however, it’s expected to rise to 5 when thicker wildfire smoke blows in to southwestern and south central Alberta tomorrow.

Under the criteria of moderate risk, the general population can continue usual outdoor activities unless they have symptoms like coughing or throat irritation.

For those with compromised immune systems, like a respiratory condition, it’s recommended they reduce or reschedule strenuous outdoor activities, particularly if a cough or throat irritation follows.
