Stats Can releases 2025 Crime Severity Index; Lethbridge sees slight increase

After a significant drop in 2024 to 105.71, the Crime Severity Index for the City of Lethbridge inched back up, by almost two percent, to 107.69 last year. 

The figures released Wednesday by Statistics Canada show there were 12,920 violations recorded in 2025, up 919 from the year prior. 

But, there was also a significant jump in the number of people charged from 3,417 to 4,156, which factored in on the index rise.

Other figures included two homicides last year, up by one from 2024, assaults from 1,590 in 2024 to 1,640 last year and total robberies up from 66 to 75.

While dropping 3.4 percent year-over-year in its Crime Severity Index, Red Deer led Alberta’s five major cities at 114.36.

Alberta’s overall figure came down by just over 6.5 percent to 90.62, while Canada’s average slid by almost five percent to 75.01.
