Hospital volunteer program provides exposure to ‘diverse’ health care system

A long-standing volunteer program at the Chinook Regional Hospital is proving to be a great way for young people to see healthcare up close.  

Volunteer resources coordinator Hilary Holt says some start as young as 13 and, in quite a few cases, has led to a future path into medicine.

“Most of our volunteers do come and decide to volunteer because they are aspiring to be physicians or work in health care,” Holt explains.

“Maybe their parents work in health care, so volunteering does help them better understand the diversity of our health care system. Our large population of volunteers here at Chinook Regional Hospital is aged 13 to 27.”
