A newly expanded dialysis program at Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, will bring with it, overnight care, only one of two models currently in Southern Alberta.

Alberta Kidney Care CEO Scott Hollland says, right now, Calgary is the only place that has something called ‘nocturnal dialysis.’

“That allows people to spend the night here and dialyze overnight, rather than coming in during the day for a four-hour treatment,” Holland explains.

“That way they can carry on…work, and live out their lives.”

Lethbridge East MLA Nathan Neudorf says the $23.4 million dollars spent on the upgrades is part of a $59 million injection by his government over the next three years.

In operation since July 20th, there are now 30 care stations, up from 24, and the addition of two specialized isolation rooms.
