Two prominent members of Taber’s sports community were recognized last week during the reopening of the community’s large ice surface, by being inducted into the Wall of Fame.

Dr. Gerry Beckie is the former president of Taber Minor Baseball, and was given the Alberta Baseball Association’s Award of Merit in 1990, before becoming the town’s Citizen of the Year two years later.

Joe Orban is also best known for his involvement in minor baseball, but with minor hockey, as well, and the skate sharpening shop he set up in 1972 inside the arena.

Both gentlemen were able to attend Friday’s community ribbon cutting ceremony dubbed Return of the Rink.
