Alberta radiation technologists concerned with staffing levels for new rules regarding diagnostic tests

Technicians who run diagnostic tests in Alberta’s health system are wondering if they have enough people to accommodate changes to the program.

Premier Danielle Smith’s government now allows patients to book their own diagnostic tests without needing a doctor’s referral.

But they have to pay for the M-R-I, C-T scan or similar test. If the test finds undiagnosed cancer they could be reimbursed the cost.

But the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists says they’re still running to catch up.
