Recent heat increased demand

Lethbridge’s Summertime water drive continues until month’s end

Aug 12, 2026 | 8:35 AM

Although we’re in a bit of cooling trend right now, the heat will return, and with it, the demand by the unhoused and at risk population to need fresh, clean drinking water.

Several non-profit agencies, like the Lethbridge Food Bank, are collecting closed packages of bottled water until the end of the month.

Executive director Tim Rempel was asked to give us an update on the progress, so far.

“It’s going well, which is not necessarily a good thing,” Rempel began.

“There’s a lot of demand out there for water, especially in the heat and there’s just a lot of people out there, and clean drinking water can’t be taken for granted, so they need some support. So, we are going through a lot of water and we could always use more.”

Unopened cases water can be dropped off at the Lethbridge Food Bank on 2nd Avenue South, Interfaith Food Bank on 3rd Avenue North or the Streets Alive Mission on 2A Avenue North.

They are also accepting donations of cash to allow them to purchase water themselves.
