Highway 3 detour near Grassy Lake to begin Aug. 14 as twinning work continues

Aug 13, 2026 | 7:46 AM

Motorists travelling Highway 3 near Grassy Lake will face a new traffic detour beginning Friday as construction continues on the highway twinning project.

The detour will be implemented Aug. 14 to allow crews to complete tie-in work on the east and west sides of Grassy Lake.

Traffic will be diverted between Range Road 144 and Range Road 131, creating an approximately 14-kilometre detour.

Two-way traffic will be maintained along the detour, with a posted speed limit of 80 kilometres an hour.

The detour is needed to complete connections between the new and existing sections of Highway 3 at Range Road 135 and Range Road 132.

It will remain in place until the final configuration of the new highway is complete.

Access to Grassy Lake will continue to be maintained through the intersection of the new Highway 3 and Highway 877.

Drivers can expect minor delays as traffic is transitioned to the detour and are encouraged to use alternate routes where available.

The Highway 3 Twinning Project is part of ongoing construction work in the area.

More information on the project is available through the Highway 3 Twinning Project information page from the contractor, Ledcor Highways Ltd.
