Police charge two people, recover stolen vehicle and firearms

Lethbridge Police have charged a male and female after a stolen vehicle containing numerous stolen firearms was recovered in a southside parking lot. 

On Aug. 20 around 11:30 a.m., LPS says a member of the Property Crimes Unit observed a vehicle in a parking lot along the 300 block of Scenic Drive South and confirmed it had previously been reported stolen from Claresholm.

Police say review of CCTV footage helped officers identify two people associated to the vehicle. The suspects were located a short time later and arrested without incident. During a search incidental to arrest, LPS alleges the male was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. 

During a search of the vehicle, police seized ammunition and 10 firearms – stolen from a residential break and enter in Claresholm.   

A 29-year-old Calgary woman was charged with:

  • 10 counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • 10 counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle
  • 8 counts of possession of a firearm obtained by the commission of an offence
  • 4 counts of failing to comply with release order conditions
  • Possession of firearm/weapon obtained by an offence
  • Possession of the proceeds of crime

 A 46-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with:

  • 10 counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • 10 counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle
  • 8 counts of possession of a firearm obtained by the commission of an offence
  • 5 counts of failing to comply with release order conditions
  • 2 counts possessing a firearm with the serial number altered, defaced or removed
  • Possession of a firearm/weapon obtained by an offence
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Possession of the proceeds of crime

Following Judicial Interim Release hearings, LPS says both were remanded into custody.
