Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for Lethbridge and areas south

Aug 27, 2026 | 6:07 PM

Officials with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) have issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Lethbridge and areas to the south.

Meteorologists say conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts.

The weather agency says thunderstorms are moving quickly through southern Alberta this evening.

Officials say some of these thunderstorms may be severe.

They remind you that when thunder roars, go indoors, as lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
