August unemployment rate: 6.8 percent

More Albertans employed last month versus August 2025, however, much less than this past July

Alberta’s August Labour Force Survey numbers are out, and it shows a 3.6 percent rise in the number of people employed last month versus August 2025.

Figures released today by the Alberta government also indicate that just over 2.6 million people were employed in the province in August.

Although an increase in those with jobs year-over-year, there was a drop from July (to August) by 8,900 jobs provincially and 41,700 nationally.

From July to August, private sector jobs climbed by 8,700 but fell by well over 12,000 in the public sector and 5,000 more in self-employed category.
