Cooler weather lowers fire danger; fire bans, restrictions, advisories, remain for now

Showers and cooler temperatures in some areas of southern Alberta has translated into a slight easing of the fire danger this weekend.

While the rating for the extreme southeast corner remains at high to very high, it’s dropped more in the southwest, where it now ranges from low to moderate.

Even with a changing pattern in the weather, many local jurisdictions have kept fire bans, restrictions, and advisories in place.

As of 5 p.m. Saturday, a fire ban was in effect for the City of Lethridge and Cypress County, while fire restrictions were still up for Lethbridge County and Waterton Lakes National Park, and fire advisories continued for the County of 40 Mile, Town and MD of Taber, Town of Cardston, Cardston County, Town of Magrath, villages of Glenwood and Hill Spring, MD of Pincher Creek, Piikani First Nation, and Village of Cowley.
