Wednesday declared FASD Awareness Day in the City of Lethbridge

Wednesday (September 9) is Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Awareness Day in the City of Lethbridge, after City councillors made the declaration back in late July. 

Debbie Deak is the coordinator for the Southern Alberta chapter, based in Lethbridge. 

She told LethbridgeNewsNow in July the significance of choosing September 9th as the day of recognition.

“It is symbolic of the nine months of pregnancy that an individual would have, in having a baby. So the ninth day of the ninth month. And, as was stated by Councillor Crowson (before declaration in July) it is the leading neurodevelopmental disability in Canada.”
