Scholarships open for women pursuing careers in which they are under-represented

Sep 15, 2026 | 10:25 AM

Applications are now open for a handful of provincial scholarships that help female students pursuing careers in under-represented fields.

The scholarships are as follows:

  • The Persons Case Scholarship supports Albertans studying in the arts, humanities and social sciences fields whose work advances gender equality or who are studying in fields where their gender is under-represented or disadvantaged. The scholarship, which has been offered in Alberta for the last 47 years, recognizes the legacy of the Persons Case by supporting the next generation of professionals and leaders as they pursue their educational and career goals.
  • The Women in STEM Scholarship supports women pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. For the past six years, the scholarship has helped more women build the skills and expertise needed to succeed in STEM fields while also helping them contribute to Alberta’s innovation economy and future workforce.
  • Finally, the Women in Technical and Applied Arts Scholarship supports women studying for technical careers in Alberta’s cultural industries, such as the film, television and music sectors. Now in its third year, the scholarship is helping build a new generation of skilled professionals whose talent and expertise contribute to Alberta’s rapidly growing creative sectors

“Alberta’s future depends on developing a highly skilled workforce. These scholarships are helping more Albertans access post-secondary education, develop in-demand skills and pursue rewarding careers across a wide range of fields,” says Myles McDougall, Minister of Advanced Education.

“By investing in student success today, we are helping build the talent Alberta needs for tomorrow.”

In 2025-26, these programs provided a total of $275,000 in scholarships for 110 students across Alberta, including:

  • Fifty Women in STEM Scholarships of $2,500 each, for a total of $125,000
  • Forty Persons Case Scholarships of $2,500 each, for a total of $100,000
  • Twenty Women in Technical and Applied Arts Scholarships of $2,500 each, for a total of $50,000
