Lethbridge Family Services celebrates Health Care Aide Day

Oct 16, 2026 | 1:13 PM

Lethbridge Family Services (LFS) is celebrating Health Care Aide Day this weekend.

On Sunday, Oct. 18, 2026, LFS will recognizes the extraordinary people who make a difference in people’s lives every day.

Officials say LFS Health Care Aides do more than provide essential personal care. They build trusting relationships, bring comfort on difficult days, notice the small changes that matter, and help people maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life in the place they call home.

For older adults, people living with disabilities, and those navigating illness or the challenges of aging, LFS says a familiar face and a caring presence can mean everything.

For families, knowing their loved one is treated with compassion, respect and understanding brings reassurance when they need it most.

LFS says Health Care Aides are an essential part of Alberta’s healthcare system, providing hands-on, personalized care that helps people remain safe, comfortable and independent in their own homes.

LFS Health Care Aides assist clients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming and mobility; provide medication reminders in line with their role and care plan; and closely monitor changes in a client’s physical or emotional well-being.

By communicating these observations to the appropriate care team members, LFS says they help ensure changing needs are recognized and addressed.

Through their knowledge, attentiveness and trusted relationships with clients, LFS Health Care Aides deliver more than essential care, officials point out; they help people living with illness, disabilities, or age-related challenges maintain their dignity, independence and quality of life.

“At Lethbridge Family Services, we know that exceptional care begins with seeing the person, not just the needs,” reads a statement from the organization this week. “It’s in everyday moments: a reassuring conversation, a helping hand, a shared laugh, or the quiet comfort of knowing someone cares. This Health Care Aide Day, we thank our dedicated Home Services team for the compassion, skill and heart they bring to their work.”

“Their impact is far beyond the care they provide,” the statement continues. “It touches clients, families and our entire community.”

October 18 is Health Care Aide Day.

Lethbridge Family Services invites residents to join them in celebrating the people who make a difference through care, connection and compassion.

Lethbridge Family Services provides health and social services to more than 9,000 individuals and families in over 32 communities across southwestern Alberta through the professional services of more than 360 staff and the support of over 500 dedicated volunteers.

LFS’s vision is a connected and inclusive community where people thrive.
