Fundraiser for Bringing Hearts Home raises just under $78,000 for new cardiac care unit

The Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation has received a 77,000-plus dollar donation towards its Bringing Hearts Home campaign.

The latest gift came from the group, Crop Aid Nutrition, and its recent Heart of Harvest fundraiser.

The leading charge in raising the money is the organization’s district manager Walter Van Ee, who lost a child 38 years ago.

His daughter, just seven months old, passed away after developing heart complications, and he saw, first hand, the challenge of long distance specialized care.

Van Ee says his family has been affected by heart issues for generations, and he knows what it means to travel hours to get treatment.

Close to 75 people attended last Thursday’s fundraiser which, in a show of hands, revealed that 90 percent of attendees either had or knew someone close to them with heart issues.
