No time change this weekend will impact our ‘social clocks’ says U of L neuro-science professor

As you’re likely well aware, all of western Canada has decided not to go back to Standard time this weekend, including us, here in Alberta.

While agreeing it’s a good thing, a University of Lethbridge professor feels we should have waited until the Spring to make things permanent.

In short, Dr. Robert McDonald with the university Neuroscience deparment believes it’s going to play with another type of clock – our body clocks.

“The problem is that the social clock, the clock that determines when we have to go to work or to school, or to volunteer, something like that…it is earlier than our biological clock is. So, that misalignment between those two clocks causes a lot of problems.”
