Firefighters Association advocating for plebiscite vote on Integrated Fire/EMS service

Nov 4, 2026 | 2:13 PM

The union representing firefighters and paramedics in the Bridge City is calling on Lethbridge City Council to save the current integrated EMS model.

Mayor Blaine Hyggen confirmed on Monday the City has been asked to submit a procurement bid to Emergency Health Services Alberta.

However, International Association of Firefighters Local 237 president Brent Nunweiler believes the community needs to have its say first.

“I’ve heard loud and clear from our residents that this is a service they value. They’re being cut out. They’re not being provided the facts. They deserve that. Their family deserve that. This service means a lot to them. They deserve a say in its future.”
