Cenotaph service honours Afghanistan veterans as new inscription is added
Military veterans from the Lethbridge region who served in Afghanistan now have a place on the city’s cenotaph that honours their service.
Recently engraved and formally recognized during a ceremony yesterday, the words ‘Afghanistan 2001 – 2014’ are now engraved onto one of the landmarks.
Matthew McHugh is a former reservist with the 20th Independent Field Batallion and feels it’s important to remember all Canadian veterans.
“In adding something like Afghanistan to it, it allows people to know that there still are sacrifices being made by our Canadian Armed Forces out there, and it’s important to keep it current and by adding this today, we’ve done that.”
