Crews working at Civic Common square starting Wednesday

Feb 19, 2019 | 9:25 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Work is set to get underway on-site of the Civic Common square in Lethbridge.

The Civic Common square refers to the four-square blocks around City Hall, which includes the Civic Ice Centre, Civic Field, the YMCA, Yates Theatre, Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization and the Old Courthouse.

According to a notice from the City of Lethbridge, contractors will be on site starting Wednesday, Feb. 20. The work is expected to finish up on Feb. 26.

There will be no road closures because of the work, but barricades might be in place, blocking a number of limited parking stalls in different locations. The barricades will only be set up while work is in progress.

Crews on scene will be performing different geo-technical tests. These will involve drilling small holes in the ground to take soil samples.

The City said the work was identified as a requirement in the recently completed Civic Common Master Plan and will help inform future planning.

The plan was completed in October of last year and will create a framework to guide and manage future growth within the Civic Common plan area.
