School resource officer and dedicated traffic officer join RCMP in Coaldale

COALDALE – It’s the first day on the job for a couple of officers in Coaldale.

Community Peace Officer (CPO) Jerry Gurr comes in as the school resource officer, as part of a new program launched by the Coaldale RCMP.

“CPO Gurr is a welcome addition being a former Lethbridge Regional Police Service member, a former trained school resource officer and a well known long time resident of Coaldale,” stated Staff Sgt. Glenn Henry in a media release.

The RCMP and Town of Coaldale will conduct a review between the end of this school year and the next one, to determine the effectiveness of the service delivery model.

As part of the announcement, the police service also noted that they will have an increased traffic presence, with a dedicated RCMP traffic enforcement officer also starting today (Feb. 27). Cst. Stephen Fyfe will work with Gurr in school zones, while also monitoring the entire community for traffic violations.

Henry offered a reminder to motorists that with Fyfe joining the force in a dedicated role, there could be increased traffic enforcement during peak driving periods, meaning you will want to always obey traffic rules throughout the community.
