Alberta government commits $100 million to rural infrastructure projects
EDMONTON – A total of 50 Alberta communities will receive financial support in the form of grants for infrastructure projects.
The money comes from Alberta’s Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program (STIP) and will support 87 projects, including 15 in the south-west portion of the province.
Under the heading of Local Roads and Bridges (LRB), regional projects include more than $1-Million for four bridge rehabilitation projects in the County of Cardston, three areas in the Municipal District of Pincher Creek will undergo culvert replacement at a cost of more than $300,000.
As well, Local Municipal Initiatives (LMI) projects, have set aside $100,200 for runway paving at the Foremost airport and $225,000 for an inter-municipal pedestrian tunnel in Magrath.
The Community Airport Program (CAP) has set aside $28,383 for LED lighting on the main runway in Vulcan.
All of the grants cover a portion of the total cost of the projects, with the remainder picked up by the individual communities or districts.

The projects across Alberta are expected to create more than 200 jobs.
