Price is right for Manitoba couple’s plan to rehabilitate orphaned bear cubs
STONEWALL, Man. — Former television game show host and animal rights advocate Bob Barker is providing $50,000 to a Manitoba couple who want to build the province’s first black bear cub rehabilitation centre.
The former star of “The Price Is Right” is extending money from his foundation to Judy and Roger Stearns, who plan to set up the $75,000 centre on their property north of Stonewall, about 40 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
“These little bears need a chance at life,” said 92-year-old Barker in an interview from Los Angeles. “I’m happy to be able to help them.”
Barker said he wants to help ensure the cubs aren’t killed or put in zoos because “a life in captivity for bears is a life filled with suffering.”
