Quebec Libs choose young businesswoman for byelection in Peladeau’s old riding

SAINT-JEROME, Que. — The Quebec Liberals have chosen a 29-year-old businesswoman to run in a provincial byelection in ex-Parti Quebecois leader Pierre Karl Peladeau’s old riding.

Naomie Goyette will try to win Saint-Jerome, north of Montreal.

Goyette is co-owner of a restaurant in Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard.

Saint-Jerome has been vacant since Peladeau’s political resignation since last May.

It is one of four ridings where Premier Philippe Couillard will have to set dates for byelections.

The Liberals have 70 of the 125 seats in the national assembly, compared with 28 for the Parti Quebecois, 20 for the Coalition for Quebec’s Future and three for Quebec solidaire.
