LETHBRIDGE – Members of the Lethbridge College Kodiaks Athletics program have helped ensure a warm winter for those in need.

The Warm Paws campaign distributed 873 winter clothing items to six groups in Lethbridge. That includes items dropped off at collection points, as well as additional clothing purchased with $400 in cash contributions.

“It’s just been a great example of the community growing together,” Christopher Maughan, a member of the basketball program, said. “I just feel really privileged being part of the Kodiaks so we can be able to give the opportunity to help people this time of year.”

The donations were presented Thursday, Dec. 1 to Wood’s Homes, Lethbridge Emergency Shelter, Streets Alive Mission, YWCA Lethbridge and District, the Boys and Girls Club of Lethbridge, and the Hands-On Early Learning Centre, the on-campus daycare.

“We do have a lot of families that struggle to make sure they have all the necessities for winter. So this will help us quite a bit,” said Jennifer Gullage-Payne, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club. She said approximately 300 children and youths come through the club each week, and the winter wear will be dispersed as needed, and saved for future use.
