Province to provide millions in local rural grants for clean water and treatment facilities
LETHBRIDGE – The Alberta government is providing more than $131 million in grants for rural areas to help support more than two dozen water infrastructure projects across the province.
According to a new release, the move is expected to create 900 jobs.
Milk River will get nearly $1.4 million for a raw water reservoir upgrade to provide more raw water storage to ensure a better water supply during dry weather conditions.
Nobleford will see $2.2 million for a wastewater lagoon upgrade to meet Alberta Environment wastewater treatment requirements.
The County of Newell gets more than $600,000 thousand to complete additional work to Alberta Environment treated waterlines, and the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass gets $185,000 for a water utility control centre upgrade (SCADA) which was a project that was previously approved, because of a project scope change and additional construction cost upgrades.
