Smoke and Haze from U.S. Forest Fires Impact Lethbridge Air Quality

Aug 22, 2016 | 7:56 AM

LETHBRIDGE –   It’s hard to miss the haze and smoke in the air and that distinct smell of “forest fire”.

Firefighters are battling fast-moving wildfires in eastern Washington state that have destroyed an undetermined number of homes and forced hundreds of residents to evacuate.

Three blazes in the Spokane region started yesterday and have scorched 18 square kilometres.

The largest blaze began when a power line came down in a field south of Spokane.

A gusty west wind is pushing the smoke from the Washington fires, and others in Idaho, eastwards towards Lethbridge.
