Blood Tribe Police Chief Resigns

Jul 6, 2016 | 12:18 PM

BLOOD TRIBE – The Blood Tribe Police Chief has resigned his position.

Lee Boyd had been Chief of Police since July 2010. His resignation took effect on June 16, 2016.

Deputy Police Chief Kyle Melting Tallow will serve as acting Chief of Police until a replacement is found, and he spoke to Lethbridge News Now about what this will mean for the community.

“We’re going to continue to operate as normal, the community should not feel any change in service delivery, in fact we’re working on a number of projects that were handed over to me from the former chief to work towards community safety,” explained Melting Tallow.

“Policing obviously has a number of changes in management as well as through the force itself,” Melting Tallow stated. “Change is a natural part of any organization, so we’re transitioning and adapting to that sudden change.”

Melting Tallow noted that Boyd’s resignation would have gone to the Blood Tribe Police Commission, and that no reason has been provided to him for the decision.

While Melting Tallow says he isn’t aware of the timeline as this point, the position opening will be advertised shortly. When asked if he would consider applying for the role on a permanent basis, Metling Tallow said he’s focusing on the duties at hand, adding, “What the future holds is yet to be decided.”
