LETHBRIDGE – Hurricanes general manager Peter Anholt says it was time for a “shake-up.”

The team has traded forward Brayden Burke to the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for 17-year-old forward Ryan Bowen, along with a second round draft pick next year and a conditional 2019 draft pick.

“There’s a number of things that have happened over an extended period of time and we just felt it was time to make a move and kind of shake up our group,” Anholt said in a news release Tuesday, Nov. 8. “We know Burke is a good player but it was time for us to move on.”

Burke was a second-team all-star in 2015-16, with a career high 109 points. Since his acquisition from Red Deer he had a total of 39 goals and 127 assists in 128 games.

Bowen, who hails from Penticton, B.C., was drafted 94th overall by Moose Jaw in 2013. He has 14 goals and 13 assists in 90 career WHL games with the Warriors, along with 28 penalty minutes. He has a plus-5 rating this season. Anholt praised Bowen’s size and skill.

The Hurricanes return to action with Military Appreciation Night, Sunday, Nov. 13 at the ENMAX Centre, when they take on the Saskatoon Blades.
