Alberta introduces two new business tax credits to grow, diversify economy

EDMONTON – Alberta is proposing two new business tax credits to try to diversify the economy and create jobs.

One would offer a 30 per cent tax credit to investors who put money into small businesses in areas such as proprietary technology, interactive digital media, digital animation and tourism.

The other would provide a 10 per cent credit for companies building up infrastructure in manufacturing, processing and tourism.

Economic Development Minister Deron Bilous has introduced a bill in the legislature to create the credits which he forecasts will lead to thousands of new jobs.

Opposition politicians say the government is trying to create employment on the one hand, but increasing minimum wages and bringing in a carbon tax is doing the opposite.
