City Bidding to Host 2018 Canadian Trampoline Gymnastics Championships

LETHBRIDGE – Trampoline Gymnastics is a rapidly growing sport, and the Lethbridge Sport Council is hoping to bring one of its major events to the city.

The organization will be bidding to host the 2018 Canadian Championships. City Council agreed to write a letter of support on June 13.

Over $50,000 will also be provided in-kind on behalf of the City, for the use of the Enmax Centre and transportation for the athletes.

“The exciting piece for us to help with the development of the sport, not just the athletes and the clubs, but the coaches, the officials, the judges,” noted Susan Eymann, Lethbridge Sport Council Executive Director.

She says it could also bring in roughly $1.2-million in economic impact.

Eymann explained that Edmonton hosted a similar event a few weeks back, and it had a large audience turnout. She hopes this event will be able to attract an audience from across the country, since “it’s just a spectacular sport to watch in person”.

The bid will be submitted to Gymnastics Canada by June 24th. The five-day event would be held July 4 to 8, 2018, playing host to over 200 athletes.

It will highlight three disciplines: trampoline, synchronized trampoline, double-mini trampoline and tumbling in all national level categories.
