Several People in Custody as Police Investigate Firearm Report

LETHBRIDGE – Several people were taken into custody, after police and the K-9 Unit were called to a weapon complaint, at a home in the 600 block of 11 Street North Thursday (June 9) afternoon.

Sergeant Trevor Sheppard told media that officers were called to a residence around 1:00-pm on reports that individuals were seen entering the home with a firearm and a baton.

Police used loudspeakers to call for those inside the home to come out one at a time with their hands up. Two individuals were taken away and three other people were placed in separate police vehicles at the scene.

Police continued to speak with someone in the home and a group of officers were eventually able to enter the dwelling. The three individuals in handcuffs were eventually removed from the vehicles, unhandcuffed and statements were taken from them.

Sergeant Sheppard noted that the trio and the homeowner were all being cooperative, however, he could not indicate if any weapons were found, as the scene was still being processed. He did state that two of the individuals were “people who should not have been at the house.”

Senator Buchanan School, which is near the home in question, went into a lockdown as a precaution, but the lockdown was lifted shortly before school was let out for the afternoon.
