LETHBRIDGE – A 37-year old man charged with more than half a dozen sexual offences involving a 13-year old girl has been denied legal aid.

In Lethbridge Provincial Court Thursday, May 3, Lawyer Miranda Hlady, acting as an agent for Lippa, asked the judge for an adjournment so he could make a Rowbotham Application to get court ordered legal aid.

Lippa, clean-cut and dressed in a black dress shirt and jeans, said nothing.

According to ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE), he was arrested at his home on Feb. 22, 2018, and several of his computers and electronic devices were seized. Lethbridge Police and RCMP assisted in the investigation after information was received in Sept, 2017.

ALERT alleges Lippa was engaging in sexually explicit online chats with the girl. It’s also believed that nude photos were being exchanged.

According to Const. Jason Richmond, the suspect knew the victim and her caregivers and planned to entice the girl away from her caregivers to meet him. When the two met, the girl was allegedly sexually assaulted.

Lippa has been charged with three counts of child luring, abduction, sexual assault, and making, accessing and possessing child pornography.

He is due back in court May 28, 2018.
