Lethbridge Hurricanes preparing for ECF showdown against the Swift Current Broncos
LETHBRIDGE – One day before the Western Hockey League trade deadline, the fates of the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Swift Current Broncos for the remainder of the 2017-18 season would intertwine.
It was on Jan. 9, that then Hurricanes captain Giorgio Estephan, goaltender Stuart Skinner, and forward Tanner Nagel were all dealt to Swift Current in a blockbuster deal that brought forward Logan Barlage, goaltender Logan Flodell, forward Owen Blocker, and defenceman Matthew Stanley back to Lethbridge.
After the Hurricanes advanced to the Eastern Conference Final on Friday, April 13 after dispatching of the Brandon Wheat Kings in five games, Swift Current defeated the Moose Jaw Warriors in Game 7 of their conference semi-final on Monday night to punch their ticket.
Who could’ve guessed then that the Hurricanes and Broncos would be facing off for the right to represent the Eastern Conference in the WHL Finals?
