Lethbridge police help with Medicine Hat explosives call

MEDICINE HAT – Members of the Lethbridge Police Service were called east on the weekend to deal wtih a potentially explosive situation.

According to police in Medicine Hat, a family helping a relative clean out a garage found dynamite Saturday, May 6. The area around the home near the city’s hospital was cordoned off while explosives teams from Medicine Hat and Lethbridge worked to ensure the situation ended safely.

By early Sunday morning crews had made the dynamite inoperable using diesel fuel.

No charges will be laid against the homeowner. Medicine Hat Police said no one was hurt, and the public had not been at risk. They added anyone who finds explosives should call 9-1-1.
