“We’re dealing with it daily”: two local officers commended for saving a man from drug overdose
LETHBRIDGE – Police Chief Rob Davis was joined by others from the Lethbridge police service in commending two local constables for their life-saving actions.
On December 23, 2016 around 11:00 p.m., Constables David Warner and Leanne Christos responded to a call in the city’s downtown where a suspicious person seemed to be breaking into a vehicle.
“It was a fluid situation, it was constantly changing. Initially, we didn’t see anybody there… At first, we thought the person had left. We had since learned that Constable Christos had identified the male on the ground by the vehicle,” Warner recounted, during Wednesday’s (Jan. 25) police commission meeting.
Warner says they sprung into action, initiating CPR until a team from Lethbridge fire/EMS arrived to administer an antidote that brought the man back to life after an apparent drug overdose.
Both Warner and Christos were recognized by Chief Davis with special certificates and sincere congratulations for their decisive actions. They were clearly proud of and humbled by the award, but both agreed that any member of the police service would have done the same and expressed their gratitude to the Lethbridge fire department for helping to achieve a successful outcome.
“We’re dealing with it daily… If not the actual overdose, the incidents that occur because of the drug use,” Warner noted. “It’s a collaborated effort of different agencies, and it is unfortunately an issue that we are facing more often than we would like to. However, we have great resources in this community that are helping us battle it the best that we can.”
