Lethbridge Hosts Alberta Public Art Network Summit

LETHBRIDGE – Does public art interest you?

The Alberta Public Art Network Summit will be hosting three days of art-packed discussions and presentations at Casa and the Galt Museum & Archives.

Art aficionados from B.C. Manitoba and Alberta will join in events aimed at increasing awareness about public art.

Kelaine Devine, Communications Coordinator for the Allied Arts Council of Lethbridge, said that speakers will provide insight on how public art comes to be.

“I think a lot of people are curious about what public art is and how it happens. It can be super fun or super contentious because not everyone has the same tastes, so we will look at how we can negotiate,” she said.

Devine commented on the development of public art in Lethbridge as a time-consuming layered process.

“You have to think about location and all the stakeholders involved. You want to make sure it lasts, if it is meant to be there for a long period of time or if it’s meant to be more of an temporary piece of art. The presentations will cover that process,” she said.

The events will also focus on how to get the word out about public art placed in unfamiliar and more hidden areas.
