Prairie farmers impacted by wet weather get help from Farm Credit Canada

REGINA, SASK. – Farmers in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba who are dealing with significant rain in the last half of the growing season and snow since the beginning of October, may get special consideration from Farm Credit Canada (FCC).

The wet weather has delayed harvest and reduced crop quality in many areas of the prairies, prompting financial hardship to many farming operations. Due to the conditions, FCC will provide support to specific locations on a case-by-case basis. That support will come in the form of deferred principal payments and/or other loan payment schedule amendments to reduce the financial pressure on impacted producers.

In a released statement, FCC president and CEO, Michael Hoffort noted the stress being placed on some farmers.

“This year’s wet weather in parts of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba has certainly been challenging for many farmers whose crops have been affected by excessive moisture,” he said. “We want to assure them that we understand their situation and will help them through any financial hardship this has created.”

FCC is encouraging customers in the three mentioned provinces to contact their FCC relationship manager or the FCC Customer Service Centre at 1-888-332-3301 to discuss their individual situation and options.

More information can be found on the FCC website.
