COALDALE  – A woman in her 70s is in Chinook Regional Hospital with serious, but non life-threatening injuries, after the Pontiac Vibe she was driving Thursday afternoon, Aug. 30, left Hwy 512, veered off the road and into a ditch, hit a tree, then crashed and wedged into the northwest corner of a home.

A mother and her children were in the house at the time but were not injured. Police say the vehicle crashed into the front porch and into a child’s bedroom.

The woman was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by members of the Coaldale Fire Department.

The vehicle was stuck for several hours while engineers assessed the structural integrity of the home.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is continuing and Coaldale RCMP are hoping anyone who may have witnessed the accident will come forward and contact them.

It’s not clear yet if any charges will be laid.

AUG. 30 – One woman has been taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries after crashing the grey Pontiac SUV crossover she was driving into a house in the Readymade area.

A mother and her children were home at the time of the crash.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Glen Henry says around 1:40 Thursday afternoon (Aug. 30), the woman was travelling eastbound on Highway 512, when she somehow lost control of the vehicle, hit a ditch, then hit a tree and then crashed into a corner of the home.

The mother and her children were not injured.

Henry says the home has been significantly damaged and it will take some time to figure out how to get the Pontiac out safely.

Traffic in the area was diverted for a short period of time, however Hwy. 512 is now open.

It’s not known at this time what caused the woman to lose control of the SUV.
