Local police conduct two training scenarios Wednesday

LETHBRIDGE – Lethbridge Police are advising the community that officers will be conducting two critical incident training exercises on Wednesday, April 25.

Police officers will be staged at the old Civic Centre Curling Rink from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and then from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the vacant Sears building to participate in the training scenarios.

Neighbours in the vicinity have already been advised according to police.

Several different teams will be involved in the exercises, including the Tactical Team, Explosive Disposal Unit, K9, Crisis Negotiators, Incident Commanders, Scribes, Tech Support and the UAV.

People in the area may hear loud noises, including police calling out commands, actors/role players yelling and the deployment of distraction devices.

Police want to stress there isn’t a risk to the public or the neighbouring properties, but police are asking people to avoid the Civic Centre Rink and Sears building while the scenarios are underway.

A release from police states these large-scale training scenarios throughout the year are done to ensure officers are well-trained, well-equipped and prepared to respond to any critical incidents in Lethbridge.
