LETHBRIDGE – Kyle Blakely, a 28-year-old man facing nearly 100 charges, was denied bail by a Lethbridge Provincial Court judge during a hearing Monday, April 8.

After hearing arguments from the Crown and Defense – details of which were covered under a publication ban – the judge decided to keep Blakely in jail at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre, where he’s currently serving time for convictions on other offences.

Blakely and a co-accused are facing dozens of charges relating to possession of stolen property, uttering a forged document, fraud, false pretenses, making/possess identity documents, possession of undelivered mail, and possession of credit card data. He also pleaded guilty to two unrelated charges in Lethbridge Provincial Court Friday, Mar. 8.

According to Lethbridge Police, during an investigation in Nov. and Dec. 2018, information from 30 people was recovered, including cheques, pay stubs, personal letters and pre-authorized credit letters.

Other property taken from vehicles included insurance registration documents and wallets.

Police say along with the stolen documents, the names, dates of birth, Social Insurance Numbers, addresses, bank account and credit card information of several people were also found.

Online applications were also made to buy a car, a guitar and to get a loan using a digitally altered driver’s license and pay stub. In some cases, documents were also traded for drugs.

Blakely is scheduled to be back in court May 2.
