LETHBRIDGE – It’s finally time for ghosts, monsters and everything scary, but Lethbridge Police are reminding you to stay safe as you’re out having fun this Halloween!

Constable Steve Baker explained that it’s particularly important for kids that are allowed to go trick or treating without mom and dad to have their best interest top of mind. He gave these top tips:

– bring at least one other friend as a backup in case something happens;
– carry a cell phone with you for emergencies, if possible, or ask someone trustworthy to use their phone;
– stay out of stranger’s homes;
– don’t accept a ride from anyone you don’t know;
– stick to familiar areas of the city.

With lots of excited trick or treaters in dark costumes running around, Lethbridge drivers will also need to be extra cautious. Constable Baker urges everyone to slow down in residential areas, and keep an eye out for anyone that might dart into traffic unexpectedly.

But he recognized that Halloween fun isn’t just for kids!
He had this message for adults that might be planning their own festivities.

“Once you start putting on costumes and masks, sometimes people forget that they are actually good, law abiding people, and they start doing some stupid things. So, just remember who you are, and remember that we want to have fun but we still want to get home at the end of the night.”

Of course, he added to limit alcohol and stay away from drugs to ensure you’re capable of making responsible choices.
