Three Residential Buildings Up For Historic Designation
LETHBRIDGE – The City of Lethbridge has approved three residential sites to work towards a Municipal Historic Resource designation.
The Buchanan residence (1404 4 Ave. S), Collier’s House (704 13 St. S), and the Watson residence (323 14 St. S) all have significance in the city’s history and will be moving through the process.
Architect and Vice Chair of the Historic Places Advisory Committee Elizabeth Songer says it’s all about preserving the past and recognizing the history of the community, “The number one reason we’re doing this is to make sure that we don’t just turn into a city that has no bearings and no roots. I firmly believe that you cannot grow and reach for the stars unless you have some strong roots and know where you came from.”
Once the designation is awarded, this opens up access to grant funding to preserve the properties.
