LETHBRIDGE:  A recent poll shows that 88-percent of businesses in the city feel their performance will be around the same or better within the next year.

The Business Leaders Survey was conducted jointly by MNP and the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce between November 19th and December 2nd of last year.

200 business leaders, including owners, CEOs, presidents, executive directors and designated senior corporate officers, from all sectors were polled.

Over 60-percent of those surveyed agreed that Lethbridge’s image is steadily improving. Regional Managing Partner of MNP LLP Lethbridge, Diana Render, says the stats indicate a continually competitive market.

Further questions addressed issues with hiring staff and the current global economic situation.

Twenty-six percent of respondents said they increased their staff, while another 56.5-percent maintained their current numbers. However, 11-percent stated that hiring and retaining employees will be the most challenging over the next 12 months.

Respondents were split on how the current economic situation has affected them overall. Forty-eight percent said they’ve seen no effect, while 49.5-percent believed it’s had an effect on their overall business.

Final results from the survey will be reviewed next Tuesday, March 22nd at the Lethbridge Economic Outlook breakfast, which will be held at the Lethbridge Country Club at 8-am.
