Individual Pronounced Dead Following Medical Emergency at the University Gym

LETHBRIDGE – One person was pronounced dead after suffering a severe medical emergency at the University of Lethbridge gym.

The victim was attending a fitness class early this evening (Tuesday, March 15). Another person at the gym notified Sport & Recreation Services and Security Services around 6:10-pm, saying they needed a defibrillator kit. Lethbridge EMS were called shortly after.

An ambulance arrived at the scene to provide more care and to transport them to Chinook Regional Hospital. However, the University was told the victim has since passed away.

There are no further details on what type of emergency it was, or the identity of the deceased.

The University has extended its deepest condolences to the individual’s family a this time, and says others experiencing distress over the event can contact their counselling services at 403-317-2845.
