Fort Macleod Father Wins College Career Makeover

LETHBRIDGE – One of six finalists was chosen as Lethbridge College’s Extreme Career Makeover winner.

Cody Gray, a hard-working father and husband from Fort Macleod, won two years worth of tuition, books and accomodations this morning.

“It means everything to my wife. She’s very much behind me 110-percent. She is my everything, and my little boy will grow up with a dad that’s educated,” noted an emotional Gray.

“My priority was always taking care of my family. I always felt like I should be working and not worrying about myself. This will definitely give me a benefit on the financial end of things, so I won’t have to worry about my family being taken care of.”

Now that he’s won, Cody plans on applying for the Engineer Design and Drafting Technology program. He explained that he wants a career that he’ll feel good about waking up in the morning for, and where he can give back to the community.

The contest saw more than 360 applicants in total. Over one-million Canadians read about it. Videos sharing the top six finalist’s stories were shared online, and the public voted on their favourites.

Within 12 days, over 14,400 votes were cast. A panel of judges from the college tabulated the votes and picked the top-two winners.

Jamie Griffiths from Camrose was named as runner-up and will receive two years of tuition herself.

Each of the remaining four finalists, Chris Carleton and Stephanie Savage both of Lethbridge, Rianna Randall of Osler, Saskatchewan and Mandy Tobler of Fort Macleod, will also receive $1,000 student awards.
