Rain not enough to put out fire near Waterton but evacuation Alert lifted

WATERTON LAKES NP —  Alberta Emergecny Alert reports the evacuation Alert for Waterton Lakes National Park has been lifted, after the boundary creek fire received 20mm of precipitation.
 
The fire remains on the U.S. side of the border in Glacier National Park.
 
Waterton Lakes National Park has reopened most areas that were closed on August 24 due to the Boundary Wildfire. A full list of open trails can be found on the Parks Canada website.
 
On Thursday evening (Aug 23), the fire grew from 20 to 100 hectares in one hour and to 500 hectares in the hour that followed. It was listed at 770 hectares on Friday morning and increased to 860 hectares by Sunday evening.
