Highest Recorded Homicide Calls in 10 Years Over 2015

Mar 2, 2016 | 1:32 PM

ALBERTA – The number of homicides Alberta RCMP responded to last year was the highest number recorded in over 10 years.

In 2015, police responded to 65 homicides in total. The RCMP runs 112 detachments across the province.

That’s compared to a total of 36 calls back in 2014.

By the end of the year, 45 of those 65 calls had already been concluded. Seven suspects also committed suicide before they were arrested and charged. Remaining investigations are still on-going.

While this is a huge spike from the norm, police say there’s no evidence to suggest that the upward trend will continue through 2016.

This year, RCMP have already responded to six homicides within their jurisdiction.
