RCMP dealing with semi-truck rollover on Highway 23

Aug 26, 2018 | 9:50 AM

NOBELFORD – Picture Butte RCMP remain on the scene of a semi-truck rollover on Highway 23 just south of Township Road 104.

Police are advising that for the next few hours traffic will be diverted off of Highway 23 at Township Road 102 and Township Road 104 to allow crews to clean up this collision.

RCMP were dispatched early Sunday morning (Aug. 26) after a semi-truck hauling a trailer load of lettuce heading northbound on Highway 23 drove off the highway and ended up rolling over with the trailer blocking both lanes of the highway.

A release states the driver, and lone occupant of the semi truck, wasn’t injured and the trailer load of lettuce remained intact.

According to police, it has been determined the driver of the semi fell asleep while heading northbound losing control of the semi.

Highway 23 at Township Road 102 and 104 will be closed for another few hours to allow the safe transfer of the load of lettuce to another trailer and to remove the damaged semi truck and trailer from the highway.

Staff from Volker Stevin are on scene to re-route traffic during this cleanup.

Police will provide an update if the highway diversion extends past noon today.
